Following its acquisitions of artificial intelligence specialist Zementis in 2016 and Cumulocity IoT last year, Software AG has now announced that it will be acquiring TrendMiner in an attempt to expand its IoT portfolio.
The TrendMiner acquisition is consolidating its leading position in the rapidly growing IoT market. Founded in 2008 and based in Hasselt, Belgium, TrendMiner specializes in visual data analytics, employing advanced analytics through real-time IoT data.
Over the last decade, IoT has become quite the trend and is soon becoming the future of technology. Simply put, IoT or Internet of Things refers to the billions of physical devices around the world that are connected to the internet and are collecting and sharing data. Anything can be turned into an IoT device – from a light bulb that is controlled from your smartphone to a driverless vehicle.
IoT is already big and is only going to get bigger hereon, particularly with tech giants such as Apple, Amazon, and Google to name a few investing so heavily in the technology. Therefore, Software AG’s recent acquisitions seem most opportune.
Talking about the TrendMiner acquisition, heads of both companies said:
Karl-Heinz Streibich, Software AG CEO stated, “TrendMiner provides an ideal fit into our Cumulocity IoT portfolio at a strategically decisive moment. We are in a phase of dynamic market development for IoT applications. Together with TrendMiner, we will be able to offer a leading streaming and visual time-series analytics platform – a unique combination.”
Bert Baeck, CEO and co-founder of TrendMiner added, “At TrendMiner, we share Software AG’s vision for enabling organizations to fundamentally leverage the connected world. We believe every industry, but especially manufacturing and process industries, will be significantly transformed in this Internet of Things era. We are very excited with the opportunity to leverage the resources and proven IoT portfolio that Software AG delivers.”
“It is one of the few market participants to offer fast diagnostics that are not Excel-based and, importantly, its patent-pending pattern recognition software for predictive situations delivers optimal price-performance value,” said Sharmila Annaswamy, a Senior Research Analyst at Frost & Sullivan.
Analysts and reporters worldwide are in praise of TrendMiner.
Given that the number of connected devices is on the rise, the day is not far when our living and working environment will be filled with smart products and processes. Therefore, Software AG is trying to establish a leadership in the market with its IoT technology portfolio.
